Artistically Unique And One Of A Kind.
Every piece of glass art offered by the Liquid Glass Company is hand made by Dan McStocker and is one of a kind. On occasion Dan will create several versions of the same item, but no two pieces are identical.
Most of Dan's sculptures take several hours and a team of 3-4 skilled glass artists to create. All creative work is done by Dan, but teamwork and many hands are required to create larger pieces.
A Process That Stands The Test Of Time.
Glass art dates back thousands of years. Naturally it started as a practical way to manufacture bottles, glasses and other useful items made from glass. Over time techniques improved along with the quality of materials available. It is certain that wealthy patrons looking to differentiate themselves were the driving force behind the evolution of glass as a medium of art.
All glass sculptures are assembled hot with torches. While this is a much more difficult and technical process, the bond is much stronger when created by heat. The only adhesive is used to mount glass tap handles to the metal ferrules that screw them on to beer faucets.
Dan implements a variety of techniques to create his work. Some pieces of glass art are molded from solid glass, others are shaped by blowing air into super heated glass and skillfully shaped into the finished piece of art.
Quality Materials
One of the most difficult decisions a glass artisan must make is which glass to use. There are a variety of glass choices depending upon how the work is going to be created. When selecting a glass we follow a glass compatibility code called Coefficient of Expansion or COE. Glasses rated with different COE's are not compatible in that they expand differently, mixing them together will cause cracking. The code also indicates the relative hardness of the glass, the lower the number the harder the glass. Liquid Glass Company uses only 96 COE soft glass. This glass offers the most consistency of all glass for creating glass art. It is an industry standard and offers a wide variety of available colors.
Our glass is lead free and completely safe to eat and drink from and are dishwasher safe.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Extreme temperature changes can cause the glass to crack. If you poor hot coffee into a cold glass, it will crack. Do not use the extreme hot water option on your dishwasher.
